CAPODAGLIO, Leonello - composer in the spotlights

Italian composer (Lendinara, October 6th 1945), studied in Venice with Gian Francesco Malipiero and Ugo Amendola (composition), Gino Gorini (piano), Egida Giordani Sartori (harpsichord), Franco Ferrara (conducting).

His catalogue overcomes the 245 works including three oratorios and two operas. He has had more than two hundred performances in Italy and to the Foreign countries, inclusive those of monographic character (complete works for piano, for harps, etc).

He has won ten national and international prizes for composition, including the “Atoll” prize for choral composition of the Haute Académie Internationale de Lutèce (Paris), the “Valentino Bucchi” prize for piano composition (Rome), the international competition for a mass for a cappella choir for the “Seventh Centennial of the translation of Holy House” (Loreto), the Virgilian Second Millenary international prize for symphonic band (Gonzaga).

Some of his works has been on the list of obligatory pieces for national and international violin and piano compositions. He has a fed number of record incisions.

He has published 142 musical works with several music publishing companies.

He has taught piano, composition and theory, he has directed the state conservatory of Adria and he has been principal conductor of several Italian chamber and symphony orchestras.

A man of letters, essayist and lecturer, he has also written works of prose and poetry. He received the “G. Spagnol national prize” for a historical novel.
